2021.12.07 21:34 He_who_brews I finished reading the book! Here's my unimportant and uninteresting thoughts on it because I'm just a random little boy and you don't know me [Book Spoilers]

So when I first heard that SuperMega was writing a book, I had assumed it was just a huge meme and not actually going to go anywhere. If anything, it would just be a small pamphlet of jokes that they would donate the proceeds to charity or on Matt's next expensive hobby of weed or Gundam but lo and behold, book 1 of the SuperMega adventures which I put onto my kindle and have now read.
First my non-spoiler thoughts, then below my Blacked™ out spoiler thoughts. It's definitely a short read. I was able to finish it in about 3 hours of non-stop reading, not even to change my Jorts when I piss'd and shat just a wee bit while reading. Not out of desperation, but because the book was actually pretty funny! It's about on-par with what you'd expect out of SuperMega humor. It borders on the nonsensical while still having a coherent enough story that it's not outlandish in the sense of being boring or dumb. At least not like, a dumb kind of dumb. Like SuperMega dumb, which is funny. The level of humor varies up and down the more you go through, with some moments just being non-stop one-two punches of jokes and funny bits, and some slowing down to be actually well-thought out moments of writing. An example of the latter being something like;

He puffed at his tobacco monolith of status for a few moments...
I personally haven't ever seen writing like this in anything else before and it's a pretty apt and cool way of saying that he's smoking a cigar. This is, of course, to say that there are plenty of recurring cliche uses of writing ironically sprinkled throughout the book. For example, the repeated use of the word 'nightmare' just before every chapter ends, the consistent use of various metaphors, e.g.;
cutting the tension like warm butter on a warm day
This repeats a few times but not so much that it gets tiring. From start to finish, it's really not a bad read. If I could compare it, it's like well-written fanfiction that's so bad it's good, something like Sonic The Hedgehog Saves America. Ironically the two feature protagonists that save America and get bitches, but we all know that Matt and Ryan are far above plagiarism. Speaking of fanfiction, some of the characters here are indeed real people. As the synopsis on Amazon implies, Osama bin Laden is our antagonist. He doesn't appear until much later, but further discussion would lead us into spoiler territory. HEAVY SPOILERS FOR THE BOOK BELOW, YOU ARE WARNED So the book is just outright unhinged from top to bottom. One such example of insane shit is that the book begins with a non-hyperbolic description of our two white straight protagonists, Matt and Ryan, living in their super swanky megaplex and having a super non-homoerotic shower scene together. This reoccurs many times throughout the book, and gets progressively gayer and gayer each time but not so gay that it isn't straight. I think. Anyway, as with the shower scenes there's a lot of running gags that are introduced that don't get stale by any means. One such example is our heroes undying love for The Taking of Pelham 123 (2009 Action/Thriller) starring Denzel Washington and Jon Hamm.
Speaking of real life characters, one of the characters that appears is Michael Richards, AKA Kramer from Seinfeld. He's a CIA operative and informant for the boys. His bits are absolutely fucking funny. He talks about how his racist tirade at the laugh factory was actually a CIA ploy to ruin his stand-up career to get him back into the fold of the agency, and that other comedians were subject to this as well. As well as this scene, much of the rest of the book relies on ironic humor which lands much, much more often than it misses. My favorite scene in particular was the super buff submarine captain, David Jones, strapping a dynamite vest onto his naked body and torpedoing himself into a gigantic sperm whale's penishole. No, I will not elaborate, read the book for yourself to find out what I mean.
The book as a whole feels like a long-winded SuperMega skit script that they knew they could physically never pull off and decided to ramp it into a book. Overall I liked what I read, but there were two things I noticed could be taken as more negative than anything. The first is two scenes in which wanton and mass death occur, the first being the boys crashing a Lamborghini into a bank because Ryan's a goofy fella, and the second being a plane crash in Siberia in which everyone except Matt and Ryan die because they bought out literally ALL of first class to themselves, which miraculously was unscathed. If you aren't a fan of descriptions like that (which trust me, it gets visceral) then you might be turned away by those scenes. The second things is that this book very much caters to fans of SuperMega. While that shouldn't be a huge surprise, if you're thinking of sharing this book with your friends who aren't versed in the kind of humor that Matt and Ryan write normally, this book definitely won't cater to them. It's strictly meant as a supplemental piece of writing for fans of the show strictly and I would advice against this being a stocking stuffer or white elephant/dirty santa gift for your office. However, if you are a fan then by all means this book was actually very funny. It features illustrations from various artists on Twitter, including Don (current thumbnail artist) and Inkussan, an artist I follow who is working on the kickstarted RPG game Blue Omen Operations. They did fantastic work and it added to the experience of reading this book.
One thing I won't spoil even in the spoiler section is the climax, which I found very satisfying. The end of the book was pretty good too and funny. The takeaway from all of this is that if you're a fan of SuperMega, this book is definitely worth the read and if you're anxious about your book coming in and it being not great- fear not. You probably made a really good purchase.
Thank you for coming to my ted-talk and please make sure you say a prayer for SuperMega before you go to sleep tonight.

I know we are going back in person, but please consider uploading recorded versions of the lecture. It makes learning a lot more enjoyable, and accessible. It's 2021 sitting in class and trying to write at the speed of light to catch up with the professors while also understanding is just not it. Please consider recording the in person lectures and uploading them or just upload recorded videos from Previous years if you really want students my GPA dramatically increased since we went online just because of how convenient it is which helps students to learn

2021.12.07 21:34 jennarudq Belly to back

Has anyone ever transitioned a belly sleeper to be able to sleep on their back? My babe is 5.5 months and has always been a belly sleeper (I know, bad mom here), but now she rolls to her back so many times in the night and cries until we roll her back, only for her to immediately roll back. She seems to want to be on her back and not want it at the same time. Any tips?

2021.12.07 21:34 ninjafrog01 Could this be EDS?

Hey guys, I know you can’t really tell me, but I could use some advice and just have to vent. I’m so disabled at this point that I’ve had to drop out of school and have been seriously weighing suicide for the past year. I’m only 23 and in so much pain every day. Every doctor I’ve seen has just shrugged their shoulders or told me to see a psychiatrist.
I have tendinosis all over my body: both wrists and ankles, plantar fasciitis in both feet, carpal tunnel in one hand, and a rare insertion tendonitis of the hyoid bone which left me mute for two years. Last year I ended up with awful nerve pain from my back down to my hands, and was eventually diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome (by doctor Donahue at mass general who I would totally recommend!) and he mentioned that many people with TOS also have EDS and that I should look into it. Looking back, it would make a lot of sense. Everyone thought I was a wimp growing up because I was so injury prone. I was even in a wheel chair for two years when I was ten bc my plantar fasciitis was so bad.
The only thing is, I’m not really hyper mobile. I took that test online and the only thing I got points on were my pinkies and maybe knees. My skin is super stretchy tho(when I compared to my friends they were all like holy shit). Could it still be EdS? Are there similar disorders anyone knows of? My RA bloodwork has been normal so far and I’ve been tested for pretty much everything under the sun. I just don’t know what to do or what kind of doctor to see at this point. I went to school for music and haven’t played an instrument or sung in over a year and really can’t imagine living like this. I’m sorry that this post isn’t helpful to anyone else, but I’m just desperate and if anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it.

2021.12.07 21:34 PruneBudget2874 Chapped lips ALL THE TIME. Pls help.

So my lips are always somewhat chapped no matter what I do and no matter the season. I’ve tried Vaseline, Palmers, Nivea, etc.; layering on normal moisturizer under an occlusive; using HA on damp lips then a moisturizer on top; and physical exfoliants. I’ve also switched toothpaste because apparently some of the foaming agents can dry out lips. I know dehydration is not an issue because I drink a ton of water. Anyone have any other suggestions?
